How will the change over to the QCTO framework impact Skills development?

Flexibility is key when it comes to navigating the fast-paced business world of today. In the training industry, we are undergoing significant changes that will directly impact how businesses approach skills development. As consultants in the fields of EE and skills development, we must remain agile to succeed in the coming changes. Let's delve into it further.

A shift from previous qualifications to those accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) represents a significant change in how skills and abilities are recognised and valued in the job market. QCTO has given until June 30, 2024, for learners to register for previous qualifications, and the deadline for completion has been extended to June 30, 2027. This allows learners to complete their assessments and acquire their qualifications enabling companies to complete their current training plans.

However, the time for registration on Legacy framework is running out and companies need to know how these changes will impact skills development in the future. In a nutshell, this will affect the qualifications that Seta’s will request, as well as what kind of scarce skills lists will be made available. It will also be essential to source training providers who will be accredited with the new QCTO framework. Currently, not all legacy qualifications will be available on the new QCTO framework therefore directly impacting companies' pivotal and non-pivotal plans for future training directions.
